What does the path to a successful non-traditional accounting career look like?
I'm 36 and considering returning to school for a master's in accounting. I was an economics major in college and the extent of my accounting coursework was intro financial and managerial accounting.
I've gone down multiple career paths and been dissatisfied with all of them. I worked at a law firm for a couple of years after college, and even got accepted to law school, but the cost scared me. Did quality assurance at a software company after that, but it paid poorly, and it seemed like only a matter of time before the manual testing work I was doing was automated. I went into healthcare administration after that, but, again, it doesn't pay well.
I'm giving accounting a look because it seems like one of the few fields out there that doesn't have way too many people wanting to break in. I'm curious to know what sort of jobs someone with my age and background would be able to do with an accounting degree. I'd like to be able to find a job that could clear $100K within 3-5 years.
