Feel regret taking a job unrelated to accounting

Hey guys, I’m a senior in accounting and I’m graduating in May. I did not do an internship but I did work for my university in financial services/student services. I’ve been applying to accounting firms/industry but I haven’t been hearing much back. I’m also unwilling to relocate because my wife has a great job here, so that really limits my selection.

I was offered permanent position where I work at university and accepted it. I figured having something lined up to pay bills once I’m graduated is better than having nothing.

But man.. if I’m gonna stay in this for a year I’m really concerned about lack of relevant experience. It is finance adjacent but not accounting related. I guess I could move to a finance/accounting role at the university but the pay still wouldn’t be great. Benefits are really good, health insurance is important to me because of chronic health issues.

Any advice? Anybody work for university accounting/finance departments? Just a little underwhelmed about it. I start in April and transition to full time after graduation.
