How to carry a conversation

I have made plans with this girl I met online (on Reddit), and we've been chatting for a bit on here. We're planning a lunch/dinner date and we're both introverts, so we're quite shy in person. How do I carry a conversation so that there are as little awkward pauses/gaps during the date as possible?
