Do you think FX plug-ins wouldnt help me improve my skills?

I have been looking at Boris Sapphire, filmconvert, and dehancer pro.

I heard most effects from those plug-ins can be made in After effects itself.

But I think those plugins can save lots of time. I am curious if I should focus on how those effects can be created by AE itself or if you would just pay and focus on something else.
