MEB Part 6: Ratings and Orders

Welcome one and all back to another MEB post, and this is to talk about the getting your ratings and getting your orders.

So I wanna first say that my experience might be different from yours, but the process is still the same. I was med boarded for mental health concerns.

Last week I had received a call from Rhode Island from a VA rep saying that my claim had been completed and I was awarded 90% You might not get this call but if you go onto the VA app during your MEB and you go to the closed tab if you see that your claim was closed you can call the VA and ask them to send you the proposed rating decision letter. You might have to call a couple times because technically they’re not supposed to send this to you, but usually can find a VA rep that’s willing to.

Once the VA has been is done processing your rating they were sending it back to the DOD for the DOD rating to be determined, which is only based on what you were boarded for not your whole VA rating for example, my mental health rating was 70% And that’s what I was boarded for so I was given a DOD rating of 70% even though my VA rating was 90%.

You will then meet with your PEBLO to sign your 1180 sheet either accepting the DOD findings or appealing it or asking for a one time reconsideration from the VA. I would highly recommend in the PEBLO should have the contact information for the office of disability Council for your Base and have them review everything before you sign. These are lawyers that have been specialized in the disability process and they will be your lawyer if you decide to appeal so it’s always good to get a lawyer‘s perspective on your case. You will also have some other paperwork to do with the peblo. They are also going to ask you to ask your commander about permissive TDY for house hunting since you’re being medically retired. You’re entitled to up to 20 days pending commanders discretion.

After this, they will send your paperwork up to AFPC disabilities office, who will then generate your orders. Your date of separation will include 15 days for our processing, however much time your commander gives you for permissive TDY and terminal leave. They also include projected leave so for example if you get out in September, will you get your orders in July You will still receive your July leave and your August leave added onto your terminal leave that you put on the sheet with your PEBLO. Your orders will pop up on PRADA once they are generated and your PEBLO should call you to tell you as well. Additionally, you will have an exit interview with your VA MSC to answer any final questions about the VA side of the IDES process.

I will make another post about the out processing process once I go through it I am currently awaiting my orders. If you have any questions or need advice about going through an MEB, feel free to reach out to me in my DM’s and I will help you the best way I can. I’ve researched a lot about this and I’ve gone through the process myself, so I can give some insight into how this plays out.
