How does marriage work?

I’m in the DEP, leaving August 12th for basic and want to get as much knowledge as possible before leaving.

After technical school my girlfriend and I are wanting to get engaged and then married. Is it advisable to get married right after technical school? Or should we wait a bit? We’re hoping to officially marry in the summer of 2025 (after getting engaged during the winter) to give a timeframe.

Since we obviously want to live together I don’t want to wait too long and then get sent somewhere where a spouse would not be able to be sent. I also would preferably not want to create a random hiccup of paperwork right after technical school. Thanks for any info!
