Before Arcade1Up, there was Arcade One... and some very multicade-esque designs
Props to Brent Sillett for this post on Facebook, where we see what Arcade1Up apparently looked like BEFORE it became Arcade1Up. As we know from an interview with Arcade1Up's former design partner, "ThinkUp!" (who later sued Arcade1Up), the original push was for "half scale" sized cabinets with "modern artwork" because according to them, "nostalgia is the kiss of death."
As it turns out, NOT delivering nostalgic design (until too late) was the kiss of death, and it took Arcade1Up years to finally bring out products that met the market's desire for arcade-accurate design and proportions... well after cabinets with inaccurate representation failed to sell and created a retail glut. And now, other companies are poised to eat their lunch with designs that closely mimic the originals.
Still, these original concepts are certainly interesting, if very much in the multicade tradition of mixing art and design concepts from multiple products in a generic, one-size-fits-all cabinet (and controls). But it's fun to see something "NEW" since Arcade1Up seems incapable of doing it themselves.
