I don’t think we should sign Nypan
Apparently he’s using six main criteria to decide what club he should join.
How wanted he is by the club, gut feeling, playing time, social time, league status and media pressure. I am not totally convinced we should sign him for these things.
‘How wanted he is by the club’. It’s one thing for him to join a club that wants him, but the impression I get is that he almost wants clubs to beg him to join. He’s just come on the market and he has this ego already.
‘Gut feeling’. There’s no way to measure this.
‘Playing time’. That entirely depends on the competition, availability of players, etc. If he’s not on form and players like Odegaard, Zubimendi and Rice are ahead of him, will he throw his toys out the pram? He’s not entitled to start; no player is.
‘Social time’. Not sure what he means by this. Players get social time, sure. We all do. Nobody’s at work all the time. Does he mean having lots of holidays off, especially during the season? If so, no. I’m all for players rest but the fact that it’s a priority for him is concerning.
‘League status’. He wants to join a big club that has a certain status and reputation in its respective league. But he also wants everything aforementioned. He wants the big club to be desperate to sign him. He wants guaranteed starts. He wants holidays.
‘Media pressure’. He wants to join a big club but wants little pressure from the media. Yes, the media can cross the line sometimes and it can become toxic. That’s the truth. So I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this. I do get the feeling that he’s only speaking about the negative aspect of the media. If he comes in, hits the ground running, scores some goals and the crowd starts singing his name, he’d have no issue. When he isn’t performing and the media come for him (within the context of fair and reasonable criticism), how will he react? Does he want a soft life where he wants all the positive things that comes with football without any of the negatives?
That’s just not how football works.
I have a bad feeling about him. I’m sorry.
