Feeding frequency 1 vs 2x/day
I have a male, neutered, 20 month old goldendoodle. He’s about 45 lbs, as his poodle father was 36 lbs.
Historically, we’ve fed twice per day, once around 7-8am and again around 7pm. He has been showing less interest in “breakfast” lately, but still eats dinner just fine.
I saw this article that found some health benefits to once daily, but would love some professional perspectives.
He has mild hip dysplasia, so we want to keep him relatively lean. He’s definitely not the voracious eater either of my previous dogs (lab/golden retriever mix and border collie mix) were.
I’m also curious as to whether his deep chest might increase his chances of bloat if we went with the once daily feeding, and how those risks balance against the various benefits.
Thanks!
