Red Heeler "correcting" other dogs
Hey everyone!
First-time poster here! I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this with their Red Heeler. I have an 8-year-old male Red Heeler, who I’ve had since he was just a few weeks old (we found him as a stray). We also have two other dogs: a 4-year-old and a 12-week-old puppy.
Lately, I’ve noticed that whenever we “punish” the other dogs—by that, I mean things like putting them in their crate or telling the puppy "no" when he’s chewing on things he shouldn’t—my Red Heeler seems to think he needs to step in and “help” with the punishment. He’ll run over and tackle the puppy, causing him to whine, which only seems to make my Red Heeler even more upset! He absolutely hates it when dogs whine, which results in even more chaos.
Is this typical Red Heeler behavior? We always try to remind him that we don’t need his help with his siblings, but it feels like having a child who insists on “helping” ground the others. It’s both hilarious and a little frustrating!
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any training tips greatly appreciated! Please dont be rude, I love love love my dogs and would truly put their lives before mine.
