How did you learn how to print

Hi everyone,

So I don’t think I’m getting the best results out of my printer. The prints feel over extruded, not smooth and generally homemade when I compare my results with others.

I’ve run the calibration routine a few times on my printer and input what looks to be the best resulting line or flow result. Which is never perfect it’s just the best out of the batch. Do I keep running it till it prints better? IE is there an improvement each time you run the calibration?

How did or do you still learn how to control your print results and manage your printer settings? I have no idea how to tweak settings for an improvement on a print. Example if I print it once and it’s not great how do I learn to know what settings to adjust and reprint it for an improvement?

Thanks

Additional information

I have a P1S with the AMS, the initial prints were great and I been blown away by the printer. I did a bunch of HSW plates with pegs and shelves and organised my garage tools. Then did a bunch of gridfinity prints to organise tool boxes, bathroom and kitchen drawers. These were all fun projects and worked really well using PLA basic, metal and silk filaments.

Recently I started a project to print a Xbox one controller cover plate. Had a few failed results and have been “fiddling” with support settings and calibration for a few days now. So after reading through the replies here I am:
