Need a new bank. What do I look for?

I live in America. I just moved to a new state, where I am at now the biggest major bank (like you would see a tv commercial for or find in any major city) are over 50 miles away. I’m not rolling in money so I’m not worried about how much of my money my bank will keep safe. I am in need of somewhere local I can cash a check or pull out over say a thousand dollars at once (say I’m buying a used car off Craigslist).

What do I need to look for when I pick a bank? How do I know which is the right fit? Do I just try for the one where my work banks so I can cash checks or do direct deposit easier? Do smaller time banks have an app too?
