What kept you invested?

I want to know what kept people interested in Berserk all the way through and what grabbed them in the beginning to keep them invested in the story.

For me I just love the tragic character of Guts, but please don’t use any spoilers if you can help it. I’ve only read up to Berserk Deluxe 6.
