Writing style compared to the show’s dialogue

I’m not really into period pieces and really had my issues with the series at the beginning. But season 2 (&3) made me unbelievably happy. Kate and Anthony not only had great actors but I really loved their dialogues and thoughts. So I would like to read their (different) story. And maybe even fall in love with the writing to read the other stories as well.

I was wondering whether the books are written in an actual period drama style or just in that kind of language. Meaning, are they comparable to e.g. Jane Austen style with long descriptions, pondering and mostly sticking to insinuations? Or are they more like the show, using the language and metaphors but with a modern pace and focus?

I hope this makes sense...
