Challenging myself to eat Canadian foods for 20 days straight. Day 12 is the Halifax donair!
The Halifax/East Coast donair and its divisive sweet, evaporated milk-based sauce is Day 12. Invented by a Greek-Canadian as an adaptation of the gyro.
I got it classic style - just meat, sauce, onions and tomatoes. At this spot, they use red onions instead of the traditional white, which actually works nicely - I like their sharpness with the sweet sauce.
This is from College Falafel in Toronto.
