My cat vanished into thin air

My sweet baby Mila disappeared into thin air in such a situation that it makes absolutely no sense and I am absolutely baffled.

For some context, I live with my in laws the top floor (10th) of an apartment in a large city (not in the US). Around noon yesterday (while my husband was at work), my SIL came to drop off her child before leaving with my FIL so he could take her to the doctor (she lives a walkable distance away from us and doesn't have her own car). I was in the bathroom at this time period whenever the door was open and my nephew was coming in and my father in law was going out. The door could not have been open long, and normally if our cat had slipped out, my MIL and the others would have noticed because SIL is deathly afraid of cats and has a physical reaction to being near one. Mila has always been an inside cat and although there have been times she has been curious to go out the door, like I said, my SIL is incredibly fearful of cats and is cautious around the door when she knows Mila is out, so I don't understand how it was possible that she could have slipped under four people's noses and gone out the door in this short time period.

My nephew came in and immediately asked to see Mila, which isn't weird or suspicious to me because he's a toddler and loves to play with her. My FIL and SIL left and my MIL closed the door. She says before she opened the door, Mila was sitting on a chair in the living room. I was still in the bathroom at this time. My MIL started looking for Mila with the intention of letting my nephew play with her but when she realized she couldn't find her (the apartment is small enough to search in a short period of time), she knocked on the bathroom door and asked if Mila was inside with me. I said no and came out and she explained to me she couldn't find her. We started looking and looking into every single one of Mila's typical nooks and crannies but found nothing. Every window was closed, the balcony door was closed. We pspspsed and made noise with Mila's favorite ball toy, which she normally immediately comes running to, but there was not a sound in the house. My MIl told me it's not possible she slipped out, my SIL was there and would have been frightened. Still, I started searching every single floor in the building (each floor consists of only two apartments so I really just searched our main communal stairwell) and found nothing. I used the same tactics I did in the house which would normally immediately bring her out, but it was incredibly quiet. There's no apartment ventilation for her to crawl into, no open pipes for her to reach into. I looked in the garden but didn't find her (which it wouldn't make sense for her to be there anyway because someone would have to have opened the entrance door for her to have got out. She looks like a houe cat and not a street cat imo so I don't see why anybody would do that.) I looked in both of the parking garages and didn't find a clue or peep of her.

I'm really devastated. The situation makes absolutely no sense. If she had jumped from a window (which is impossible because everything was closed), we would have seen her body from the windows. If she was hiding in the apartment, she would have come out by now. If she was stuck somewhere in the apartment, she would have cried by now. If she was in the stairwell, the garden, or the parking garages she would have come to me when called or cried if she was stuck somewhere. The only conclusion that's starting to make sense to me now is that somebody in our building snatched her very fast, because I started looking through the building not 15-20 minutes after we realized she was nowhere to be found in the apartment. She's a beautiful cat and very friendly and sweet and I think although she was not wearing a collar, it's very obvious she is not a street cat.

My heart is broken. I can't sleep. I searched the building, garden, and parking garages three times over. I set her food and one of my shirts in front of our door to try and guide her back, but it's like she was never here at all. We will start talking to neighbors and asking them but my husband doesn't want to knock on people's doors, he would rather let his mom text the other families living her, but I feel like somebody took her with the intention of keeping her and that this person (if this catnapping scenerio is the truth) would not be honest about taking/having her.

I don't know what else to say or what more information I could provide. I just want my baby to come back home.
