Normally independent cat has become velcro overnight. Is she okay?
I've had my little tortie for about 3 years. She's about 4.5 years old. She has always been timid around people. It took almost a year for me to gain her trust, and she's still a little shy around my husband and (teenage) kids. Until yesterday, she would sometimes cuddle on my lap or wander up and demand pets, then be on her way. Most of the time, she was happy to observe us from a distance. She only slept on my bed when there were no humans around.
Yesterday, I stripped the bed to wash bedding, which I do every week with little to no interest from this cat. But yesterday she jumped on the bed and was being an absolute baby. Rolling around, headbutting, meowing for pets, etc. She stayed on the bed all day and would yowl for me to come back when I left the room. This cat has never wanted this level of interaction from me or anyone else. Then after I made the bed and laid down to go to sleep, she slept with me all night. Literally in my arms. Super cute, but not normal for her. She usually likes to prowl around (indoors) at night.
This morning she's being pretty normal. She's eating and using her litterbox as usual. But she's following me around the house. Every time I look up, there she is. Did she just suddenly decide I'm the bestest ever, or is she unwell? Should I take her to the vet?
