Apparently it's not required

I just always assumed it'd be a requirement to have eye and ear pro on so I was surprised to learn it's actually not, I even asked the RSO and he says that it's not uncommon to see people without eyes or ears on, just thought this was interesting, Blue trail if anyone was curious.
