Who remembers providence sq shopping center?
My question is for Charlotte natives who have been here for decades. I’m talking during the 70s-90s, or about that time.
There’s a decrepit shopping center tucked behind my apartment complex called Providence square. I’ve been really curious about it because I hear it was really popular during the 80s. It’s been my hyper fixation for awhile now.
Now it sits nearly abandoned. There’s currently a church, salon suites, and a couple other small offices. There’s an old brick building that’s boarded up that looks like it’s been sitting vacant a long time. It looks like there used to be another structure next to this brick building that was torn down, but idk.
The only thing I’ve been able to find on google is that there used to be a Harris teeter. I’ve heard from several people who were raised here that it used to be very popular. I’m just curious because the area around me is being redeveloped.
Part of me hates it because there’s probably just gonna be more apartments built that nobody can afford. But I digress. I’m just curious what used to be back there.
