Contemplating cosmetology school - what are your thoughts?

Hi! I've never posted here so I'm a little nervous. I am 19 F (turning 20 in May), currently researching cosmetology school so I can pursue being in the beauty industry as a career. I am in the NYC area. So far, it sounds very appealing to me for the following reasons:

- Lots to learn and constant evolving skills to learn

- Lot of opportunities whether in hair, makeup, nails, etc

- I have an interest in the beauty industry and strongly enjoy hair, makeup, and nails. I also enjoy the idea of helping someone feel beautiful or confident with my work.

- Opportunities to build good client relationships.

However, so far I recognize the cons as:

- Lack of guaranteed breaks in between customers

- Cosmetology school can be pricey

- Long hours

- Salon owner/client interpersonal issues

I've been told it can be rough starting out and building a clientele, but I really do think this could be great for me. I have some mental health struggles which have made school and work difficult, but I really think this could be a great way to do something I'm passionate about, make money, and learn to build my skills. I really want to put the work in, but I wanted to hear from any actual workers of the beauty industry/cosmetology world. Also interested in hearing from current students in cosmetology. Let me know your experiences, tips, advice, warnings, anything. I'm open to hearing as much as possible in order to build a genuine picture of how it could go. If any of you have any schools you could recommend to me to look into, that'd be great too. Thank you for reading this post!
