Soft tip bounce outs
I'm a casual player in asia trying to get better, so I'm not planning to switch to steel tip darts for now.
Whenever I play on a cheaper board at a friend's place, I get tons of bounce outs (like 2 out of 3 very often). We only count darts that stick since our board doesn't track the scores, and the constant bounce outs is very frustrating. I missed a hat trick yesterday cause one of my darts bounced.
I'm currently trying to solve the problem with a combination of dart changes and throw changes.
My dart is the one80 back to basics jls (20g), which I believe is a bomber style dart. Tips are lippoint plus, and the tail is cosmo size 5 plastic spinning shafts (31mm) with standard size flights. Overall weight is about 22g. I'm considering getting heavier shafts to up the overall weight. My thinking is that the higher momentum might carry the dart into the board harder? Though I'm not sure if shifting the center of gravity further to the tail might worsen the issue.
As for my throw, I'm currently still shifting between a lob style throw and a harder, straight throw. I had the opportunity to play on a steel tip board, trying a bunch of different darts and I pretty much always got a very flat entry into the board (I'm guessing like 0-10 degrees), including with darts similar to my own setup (bomber style, similar weight, similar length shaft and size of flight). Despite this, I'm sure my throw is part of what's causing the bounce outs cause my more experienced friend doesn't have any issues with bounce outs using my darts. I don't think he's throwing much harder than I am, but he is taller and has longer arms (maybe more power and leverage?). When I look at his throw from the side, his darts enter the board tail up by about 30 degrees from flat. Now that I think about it, are my darts entering too flat?
Aight, tear this novice a new one guys
