Matched into Anesthesia but…

I matched into anesthesia, which was my first choice. And I am very happy where I ended up! I was also applying to IM, which was my second choice. Now, my parents are happy that I matched but they really wanted me to go into IM. They don’t see anesthesiologists as ‘real doctors’ and no matter how hard I try to explain to them, I can’t seem to convince them.

This is so frustrating for me, I was over the moon after finding out I got into anesthesia, but now I am frustrated and upset to see them unappreciative of the hard work I had into put in to be able to match into my dream specialty.
