How would Odysseus have even been able to raise Astyanax as his own?

Zeus says “he will burn your house and throne”, but it’s a bit hard to imagine that Odysseus could have even kept the baby alive long enough to get to that point.

If Odysseus took him, one could wonder how the baby would survive without milk, but EVEN IF WE OVERLOOK THAT, I’m trying to picture the events of EPIC with a baby in tow.

Do they bring the baby with the to Polyphemus’s cave, or leave it in the boat? It’s possible that the baby could redirect Polyphemus’s aggression, or it would cry and alert Polyphemus before his sheep got killed. Or even simpler, this is now a version of Ody that has less guilt, and therefore he kills the cyclops. So then they make it back to Ithaca okay?

But let’s say that the Cyclops Saga plays out the same. Does the baby survive the storm? Does he survive POSEIDON?? Would the god not take a son for a son?

If the baby made it to Circe’s island, maybe he leaves it with her. It definitely makes more sense than bringing it to the underworld.

And uh, okay so if the baby did make it to the underworld, the baby would have obviously survived the Sirens and presumedly Scylla, but the cows man… First of all, the idea of baby having immortal cow milk would be funny, but that being said, is Zeus going to let Ody pick between himself and the baby vs his crew, or would the baby be lumped in with the crew and die anyway? Or would this less-monstrous version of Ody sacrifice himself?

It’s also entirely possible that early in their journey they end up stopping a few islands earlier than the lotus eater island in order to get the milk for the baby before he starves, and they find food elsewhere, so the Cyclops saga never happens. BUT, it’s just interesting to think that they could in theory have had a much easier journey if they took the baby, as Zeus kind of implied that Ody would be able to raise him as his own and it just wouldn’t have worked. Of course, it’s also possible that their journey would be the same and the baby falls overboard early on, and survives in a Prince of Egypt sort of manner, being ferried away by various mythical creatures.

Anyway, those are all my rambles! I’m curious if anyone else has thoughts on how Ody could have raised the infant as his own, or thoughts on what would have actually happened if he took it along with him.
