Can you damage your own armor?

I am frustrated with ragman's sew it good part 3. Get the zabralo 6b43 armor under 50% condition.

I figured, why not kill myself with a nade, take the insurance and get the damaged armor back.

Am i too stupid to damage my armor or is it simply not possible to damage your armor?
