What were your Captain fan theories?
I personally had a couple of theories which i felt like sharing today. These were long before any natlan leaks, his tragic past, and just pretty much headcannons.
First one, Captain was the main boss of natlan's story quest.
I imagined that once you arrive, the natlan's whole gimmick was that, anyone can challenge the pyro archon for her gnosis, after winning the tournament of 1 vs 1 fights. Rule of the strongest. If you can beat her, you deserve the power thay gnosis brings. Captain was here for far longer than you have so he already won the tournament,as you discover from some NPCs.
You arrive athe stadium but rather than see the fight between the two, you see pyro archon laying down defeated, with Captain standing over her and clutching the gnosis. He sees you and, intrigued, decides to stay. He offers you the gnosis if you can beat him in the next month or so.
Natlan's AQ is all about you training with other tribes to become stronger. At the end you of course, fight captain, with the name below his healthbar being "the strongest".
You don't actually win of course. Instead, Captain just stops fighting and says he is amazed by your growth. He gives you the pyro gnosis and leaves for snezhnaya. You ask him why did he just give up and what was all of it for. Captain says that he wanted to measure your strength and see if you can still grow further. Before leaving, he says that if you want to find your sibling, you will travel to Snezhnaya and seek out the Tsaritsa. And he is sure you will come find her.
The quest ends here and of course, Pyro archon doesnt take back the gnosis, because she did lose to captain after all.
And the second theory i had was that captain was secretely into cute and funny kid stuff.
I was thinking that you could come to some sort of orphanage at natlan. I mean, nation of war and all, probably tons of kids with dead parents. You arrive into the orphanage and see fatui guarding the door. Of course paimon be on her bullshit like "oh they probably recruiting children like arlechino but worse". But once you are inside, you see captain straight up competing with kids in rock paper scissors and losing. Then it's something like, hide and seek and he loses because he is way too tall to hide anywhere. He then goes to read a story for the kids as they all go to sleep.
His whole personal quest is about the idea that, while your hobbies and interests might be humiliating for you, you should embrace them and not feel bad about what you enjoy.
At the end of the quest, you and him team up to hunt down the rogue fatui squad who decided to leave his platoon, because they became embarassed of captain's interests when he isn't at the job of being a harbinger. And of course, you get a cool cutscene of him being, well, HIM and taking care of the deserters.
That's the two main headcannons i had. Feel free to share yours in the comments, i'd love to read some.
