Pros of a larger baby

I know a lot of people are stressed about larger babies and there are definitely risks with GD, but maybe this will encourage someone who’s measuring larger or has a larger baby.

I had my son at 41w 6d (my midwife let me go to 42w pretty much because I was diet controlled). He was 9lb 8oz and a little hypoglycemic when he was born but it was resolved before we went home.

PROS —he could hold his head up day one because he cooked so long and had so much muscle —strongest baby in the hospital 😂 (kept ripping out of swaddles. The nurses were like omg) —he ate 3.5oz from the jump but he ate so fast (within 10 minutes on BOTH sides) —I fed him on demand so I never had a milk shortage because he was a good eater —he could hold himself up for tummy time early, even if for 30s —he was sort of “ahead” of the curve and crawled at 6 months, walked at 9 months —we were able to safely co-sleep from the beginning —we didn’t have many newborn clothes which was good because he was only in them for about 2 days

I’m sure there’s more but that’s what at the top of my head. He is now 2.5 and been on his 40% curve since about 3-4 months. He just barely got to 30 pounds lol which is interesting because a milestone is reaching 3x their body weight. That’s definitely easier for a 6-7 pound baby.

I’m just saying all this to say, yes we know the negatives but it’s really not the end of the world. GD affects babies in the womb, but they can still thrive outside for sure!

Edit: I think some comments implied I said I had no struggles or people don’t struggle with larger babies. Never said that. I just decided to focus on the pros because I do see a lot of people almost afraid to have larger babies. I personally felt like I would be judged by it but in hindsight it wasn’t bad at all. Currently 34w and my 2nd baby is following the same trajectory I was so afraid of last time and I’m not worried. Hope this helps someone who feels the same way I did.
