Pixel watch 3 fitbit

I received my pixel watch 3 today (the 45mm) and tried to connect it to the fitbit app on my Pixel 7. However I try to connect from the Google watch all I get the error message:

"Can't connect to device. Your profile isn't permitted to connect to this device."

If I try to connect a new watch via het fitbit app itself I cannot find the Pixel watch 3 in the list of possible watches to connect.

Has anyone been able to establish this connection yet? Or do I have to wait for some app update or something?
