Why does everything I play sound like blues.
For context I've only been playing since August of last year.
Every time I try to come up with something to play, even if I specifically try to engineer it and not just noodle, it all just sounds like blues, and really boring basic blues as well. I have no idea why though. I've never listened to the genre, nor have I learned any songs in it. I know it has a strong relationship with rock but there is obviously a different quality to it.
At first I thought it was because I really only knew the minor pentatonic scale which from what I gather is very common in blues stuff. But even after learning the major scale it still happens. And on top of that, when I look at my favorite riffs or solos, or even just songs in general, they are almost all just pentatonic stuff, often times really basic too, like just going up and down the scale. But the vibe is entirely different. I have no idea how to replicate it. I've tried changing up the rhythm more within a phrase or playing faster etc, but I feel like I'm missing something.
Any tips? I can give examples of songs that I mentioned have seemingly basic pentatonic stuff going on.
