Where to homestead?

Hello all! My wife and I are looking to homestead in the not too distant future and have been looking around for the best states in terms of homesteading. We’d prefer to be on the East Coast closer to family and have found Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri and Iowa to be great options. Anybody have any recommendations or advice with these choices? Also for reference we don’t have any children yet but are planning on having them within the next couple of years, so homeschooling laws will definitely need to be considered.
