Just finished Yunli’s companion mission, and it might be the best one in the game so far.

First of all, my god, that’s a pretty traumatic backstory. Guess she and her uncle have a lot in common. Her describing her entire family, and the blacksmiths, massacare was so good.

Like when I first heard about cursed swords I was like “Oh yeah like Balmung, just more violence, yeah ok I get it.”

But nah, they made these swords horrific, like yeah nah, I agree with Yunli, melt all those swords. Plus it makes Yunli’s quest seem a lot more serious than originally, like instead of “I don’t like cursed swords, there evil and I can hear them.” It’s “I don’t like cursed swords, there evil, I can hear them, they caused the slaughter of my entire family and were created by my father due to his arrogance and pride, and his creations now slaughter across the galaxy.

Also the fact that Yunli has apparently suffered over three hundred fatal injuries in her quest to destroy them, like I thought she had Yanqing level of experience, but nah she actually seems like she’s seen more combat than Yanqing. And keeps nearly dying because of it!

Then there’s the part with Guyun and the cloud knight, which immediately subverts the cursed sword thing, by basically having the sword go through so much despair that it never wants to taste it again. And all the dialogue for the cloud knight was just fire, Guyun telling him the war was hopeless, him persevering, him telling the citizens to kill him when he comes back as a Mara-struck, his memorial on the xianzhou.

Like god damn, it was a great story. Between this and Yukong’s companion mission, I think Xianzhou’s characters are easily blowing the other planets away with companion quests.
