Katniss and Peeta were dating and didn’t realize it

I don't know if it's just me, but Katniss and Peeta in "Catching Fire" seemed to be in a relationship from the start of the Victory Tour to the end, without making it official or even realizing it. I understand why, since so much was happening that they had no time to think about being in a romantic relationship. However, after they agree to be friends, the line blurs between friends and lovers.

For example, on the Victory Tour, when Katniss is put into an orange frock dress, she thinks to herself, "I think about how much Peeta will like this color on me." When Peeta announces they will share some of the winnings with the victors' families, she kisses him on the cheek for herself and references when Haymitch said she should be happy to marry Peeta because it could be worse, thinking, "How could it be any better?" They also spend many nights on the trains protecting each other, which must have been very intimate, though not in a sexual manner.

When they return from the Victory Tour, the situation with gales whipping distanced them, but after gales recovery, they spend much more time together, holding hands and running errands together. Katniss also gets injured, and while she is recovering, Peeta is always by her side. We get many memorable moments, like the family book and the "stay with me" "always" pages. Peeta also carries her up and down stairs daily for a change of scenery.

Then, when the Quarter Quell is announced, they distance themselves because Peeta wants to make sure she will survive, while Katniss is surprised and expected "hugs and kisses" from Peeta. On the train, they rekindle their "friendship" and spend every day together before the Quell. Peeta calls her beautiful, not in front of the cameras, and they also share private kisses. We know that in the Quarter Quell, they aren't faking anything other than being married and the pregnancy. It was pretty evident that they weren’t just friends. Katniss also gets jealous over the elevator scene, and it’s such a silly thing, especially if they were just friends. In "Mockingjay," when Katniss finds out about Peeta’s hijacking, she says, “whatever was between me and Peeta is gone,” clearly implying not just friendship.

Those poor kids should have just sat down and had a “what are we” conversation, but they had no time to do so and were not in the place for needing labels and romantic relationships. It really makes you feel bad for them since it shows how young they really were, and they basically went on two “dates” without realizing it: 1. Making the family book 2. On the roof the day before interviews

They do get into some arguments, but they settle them quickly and are able to resolve them, only making them closer.
