Hot Take: KH3 isn't bad we just grew up.

Personally, KH3 is my least favorite of the series, but I don't think it is as bad as people make it seem. Sure, some of the reaction commands aren't as fun as the KH2 and the game can feel a bit like an ad for Disneyland, but that's not why the fanbase doesn't love it the way it loves the others. I think the biggest discredit to the game is that it came out in 2019.

99% of us discovered KH1 when we were children and we were thrust into this magical world where by believing in yourself you can become a hero. The story, gameplay, and graphics were completely unique to everything else that came out during that time. It was a new experience and foreshadowing for how great a video game could be. I remember my brothers and I throwing down our bikes and running into the house after school to determine who got first dibs. As the youngest, it was never myself, but even just watching my older brothers take down heartless was magical. Whenever I hear simple and clean I can almost smell the game room in my parents old house. I think many of us can relate to that. We have these core childhood memories stored into the game and as time passed on from 2005 (release of KH2) video games began to catch up and create some of that magic themselves. Skyrim, Minecraft, MW2, these are just a few games that remind me of what it is like to be a kid. Once we got to KH3 we were adults...and by the time KH4 comes out many of us will have children of our own to share this saga with and continue the great memories, but in 2019, KH3 didn't have an X factor on other games that the previous ones did.
