Daredevil: Born Again thoughts
Here is a short list of things I like and dislike so far.
Likes:
- Acting:
Charlie and Vincent is phenomenonal. Debroah Anne Wolf and Foggy also bring there A game. However I was suprised to see that none of the newer actors were really phoning anything in and actually felt believeable and natural.
- Lighting and Cinematography:
The shots to my surpise were surprisingly good to even great. The best examples I can think of is obviously the fight scene in episode 1 and the last scene with Fisk looking down on the city and Matt looking up from the street below. It is not your typical MCU show it comes to these two things, however the original Netflix shows still is significantly better in this regard. Good uses of reds and yellows imo.
- Opening title screen:
It looks cool and fits the theme of the show very well. Definitely on par with the Netflix version.
- Atmosphere:
They are doing a pretty good job at creating an enthralling atmosphere for New York/Hell's Kitchen. It very much still feels like a character like it did in the Netflix show.
- Soundtrack/Score:
Pretty nice so far especially during the opening title segments in the episode and during more tense scenes.
- Dialogue:
The dialogue in this show is very natural and not cringeworthy, especially in the bar scene. It actually feels like real people taking and not action figures being voiced by a 7 year old.
- Characters:
So far I think the characters are decent overall with Daredevil and Fisk carrying. Kirsten is the best new character they have added so far.
- Action:
It is fun so far, pretty creative, and very violent.
Dislikes:
- Pacing:
I don't know if I am the only one who feels this way, but the pacing is going a bit too fast in my opinion. For example there is a scene where Matt and Kirsten are defending the White Tiger in court and the judge basically just dismisses them very quickly and sends Hector back to jail essentially. I know that the original show had some pacing problems in terms of how lengthy scenes can ne at times. However I still feel like time was flying at points and just wanted the show to slow down.
- CGI:
I don't think the cgi was the best here, especially during more acrobatic segments. Like when Matt jumps off the roof top and swings it is just so obviously cgi that I kinda cringed at it. I have to watch them fight scene again but I believe that they used it during parts of his fight with Bullseye but I could be wrong.
- Mayor Fisk plot hole:
I'm still wondering how it is even legal for Fisk to run again. Did I miss something? Like everyone knows that he is a domestic terrorist at this point and knows that he manipulated the FBI, bombed Hell's Kitchen, and killed a bunch of people. I know that the system is corrupt but even then this is still a very far fetched idea that Fisk could be the Mayor of a city after what he did.
Undecided:
Plot:
Im not yet decided on how I feel about the plot yet. There is a like 2 or 3 major plotlines so far so I have to see how it unfolds. Hopefully they can balance them well. Overall the first episode is like an 8/10 for me while the second was a 7/10. Not too bad imo to start the season but it could have been better.
