Nerve Issues 3 months PO but surgeon doesn’t seem to be concerned
Anyone have success stories of nerve issues that took longer than usual to resolve? 3 months post-op and still have calf, foot, and big toe numbness that feels pretty much the same as pre-surgery.
Background: I (27M) had an emergency MD after suddenly having back pain, leg numbness, and paralysis. Went to the ER and had a 18mm herniation with complete spinal stenosis, so it wasn’t like the nerves were compressed for weeks prior to surgery.
My back pain is much better and I’ve been able to regain mobility and motor control but the nerve issues are killing me. My surgeon isn’t concerned and just keeps saying it’ll take a few weeks, a few months, and now possibly a year to resolve. Basically increases the timeline every time I’ve mentioned it to him. Have been doing PT, nerve glides, all the normal rehab but my PT is saying he was expecting a faster recovery given that I was active/fit prior to my surgery. I know every recovery is different but I’ve seen people saying nerve issues resolve after 4-6 weeks so 12 weeks seems excessive…
