Did you have to watch 9/11 during school time? did any teachers tell you WHY we had to watch it?

I remember so vividly that the teacher just rolled the TV into the class, played the 2 planes hitting the building told us people died and walked out. Thinking about it why the fuck did they have to show that to elementary school kids? Did any of your teachers say anything about it? or tried to explain the situation?
