The shame of sleep disorders

Does anyone else feel a deep sense of shame when they get caught napping or accidentally sleep through something? I’m a 33 yr old attorney (currently on long-term disability leave for PTSD) and it was humiliating to run into work at noon because I was trapped in sleep paralysis or I subconsciously hit snooze 18 times. I worry I came off as a lazy teenager, even though my coworkers knew about the sleep issues.

The media makes jokes out of narcolepsy so people don’t seem to understand how debilitating it really is. It’s been reassuring to find this community echoing my frustrations about it.
