Looking at people’s profiles

I am still pretty new to Reddit, but am really enjoying an online forum to chat with people about my niche interests. I also like reading discussions between users. I have noticed some users responding to people saying “I looked at your profile and it appears…”. Do Reddit users look at others profiles a lot? I feel like one of the appeals of Reddit is the anonymity so I’m not really sure
