What am I meant to say at the barbers?

What do I actually ask for to get the haircut I want? As you can guess from the fact I'm asking this on Reddit, I'm not the best socially. However I just don't know what I'm meant to say, as usually I don't like my hair for about a week after a haircut and it just makes me keep delaying getting it cut.

The only things I think I know is I don't like "grades" with razors because it's too short and I like a longer fringe, but even if I specify where I want it too it always seems to get cut shorter any place I go. I wouldn't say I have a "style" just generic? I live in the UK btw in case that changes anything.

I know you can show your barber a picture but because I don't have a style, so you can't really find pics online and I can't think of anything more cringe-inducing than showing them a picture of myself.
