Does the number of admirers a person has influence your interest in that person?

My question sounds weirdly specific but it’s actually not that hard to understand. Imagine you are talking to a someone and you find out that there’s a lot of people that are trying to pursuit them. Would you feel like that increases your desire to pursue them as well (if you had that desire to begin with) or would that make you turn away?

Personally I feel like knowing that a guy has lots of women chasing after him would make me slightly lose interest, not because of the guy itself but because I hate competition. I also know lots of female friends who feel the same. So that made me wonder if it’s the same for men?
