Are US cities becoming less impressive compared to other power Nations?

Why are cities in countries like China, Japan, and the UAE etc racing ahead with cutting-edge infrastructure while the U.S. is stuck with crumbling roads, outdated trains, and slow-moving projects? China has built the world’s largest high-speed rail network, with bullet trains like the Fuxing, while we have the ancient Amtrak on aging tracks. China's cities look like something from the future and it seemed to happen so fast. I feel like the American media tries to hide how impressive their cities and infrastructures are so we can still feel like "number one".

Japan has trains that exceed 375 mph, and Tokyo’s metro system is actually efficient and punctual, it puts most American cities to shame.

The UAE is creating entire futuristic cities like NEOM (though technically in Saudi Arabia) and The Line, which is supposed to be car free and AI-powered . Dubai's airport and Metro system is more impressive than any in the US.

Does anyone else feel like the U.S. lagging behind? Why do you think this is??
