Custom Trailer Suspension
Got a question about people’s off road trailer suspension. I recently got a pre existing homemade trailer and turned it into a camping/overland trailer. It did great for the most part and handled most stuff but the only problem was once I took it on some pretty rocky roads and heavy washboards it bounce around like crazy. So this got me thinking about redoing the suspension from leaf springs to more like that third picture. This would definitely be a fair bit of work and not sure if I want to put that into the trailer or not.
So my question is if anyone else has run into this issue too with leaf springs? Could I use lighter ones? Should I just try and load the trailer down more… not sure I want to do this as I would like it to stay relatively light as I’m pulling this mostly in the mountains. Although I am still well under towing capacity of my Xterra just certainly don’t want to exhaust my brakes. What have other people done to combat this or has anyone else run into this?
Thanks
