Why do you think MNL48 was never accepted by the mainstream but other groups were?

You can't deny the success PPOP has been experiencing the past few years. It's a genre that has been accepted by the mainstream public, and rightfully so,

MNL48 on the other hand, despite being one of the pioneers of PPOP, was ridiculed by the public. They never garnered mainstream success unlike other groups. Natawag silang cringe, corny, and etc.

Aside from di ganun ka-ganda management nila, why do you think they were never accepted by the mainstream audience?
