Should I buy a Japanese copy of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire?

My mom and I are currently learning Japanese, and we plan to visit Japan during the fall. The Japanese copies are WAY cheaper than American copies, and I could benefit from learning the Japanese alphabet from the games, but at the same time, I have no idea if I could actually benefit from it. Please help me decide, as I'm at a loss.
