2nd Gen Porsche Cayenne?
So I’m in need of a daily car. I don’t absolutely need anything crazy, just something to commute to work with (~10k miles annually) but it’d be nice to have something to take to the mountains or off road with every now and then.
Recently while watching and reading some car blogs, I noticed people mentioning how 2nd gen (2010-2016) Porsche Cayennes have solid off road capabilities, and, maybe more importantly, solid V8 engines, for a somewhat reasonable price. This is all music to my ears as I’ve loved Porsches since I was a kid.
I did some digging and found a few of the later versions (2013-16) for 12-17k, roughly 100-130k miles, clean carfaxes etc. Can someone convince me this is a bad idea? I know I’ll hear the obvious “nothing more expensive than a cheap German car” shtick and I do understand that I’d be paying Porsche maintenance for a 15k car. I’m good with my hands and I’d like to learn to do as many repairs myself as possible, if that is worth anything.
Is this worth it? How many more miles could I expect to get out of one of these guys with good maintenance?
The alternative here is literally anything else. I’ve driven Japanese cars all my (limited) life, so I’ve had my eye on 4Runners, highlanders, maybe an old Lexus GS, but given that I’m in that <20k range, my options are all 15 years old and 180k+ miles, so idk if that’s really a better route.
