20km in Novablast 3, does it get better?
UPDATE: After around 50km, the initial discomfort I experienced were gone. Now it just feels like a normal daily trainer, nothing too special but nothing to complain about as well. Just a shoe I pick up to clock my mileage without thinking too much :)
ORIGINAL THREAD: Got myself a pair of Novablast 3 as my new multipurpose shoe because I heard so many good reviews on it.
Well, 20km in and I REALLY dislike it. Don't get what the hype is all about. People talked about the bounce, the trampoline pod and being able to cover a wide range of paces with it but I don't see that at all in my experience.
My main gripes are:
On my first run I could feel the forefoot area protruding kind of like a hockey puck, which is uncomfortable but after 20km it has gotten better, although I still feel it slightly in my right forefoot which is annoying.
The shoe is really slappy. I'm not too concerned with the noise but it feels as though with every 'slap' my momentum just get sucked away. This is unlike any other shoe that I have tried. Even for shoes without a rocker geometry I feel that they at least help to conserve my momentum. So the ride feels like this: First, I land with a slap and the momentum is gone, then when I push off it feels like the shoe is separating into 2 pieces and I sink into the forefoot, kind of like running in sand.
Does it get better after breaking in a bit more? The puck at forefoot feeling is getting better overtime. Got this on sale so there's no returns :(
