MAT or AMS for Math Teacher

I'm an incoming freshman at Stony Brook and I have no idea what I'm doing😭.

I want to be a math teacher after college so I'm planning on applying to Stony Brook's Math Teacher Education Program. Does anyone know if it matters if I major in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics? Which one would be better for my career?

I'm already enrolled in MAT 132 but a lot of SBU alumni were telling me I should take AMS classes instead cuz MAT is really hard... I checked if I can swap MAT 132 with AMS 161 but the only class opened right now is a 3 hr online class with Professor Bernhard. Should I switch?
