academic monsters with a stacked portfolio
Comparison is the thief of joy but tell me how to not get worried and anxious when all i see as i scroll past on linkedin are academic monsters with a stacked portfolio. What do i mean by stacked? I mean 100+ HOURS VOLUNTEERING, 2 START-UPS, 1 PASSION PROJECT, STEM OLYMPIADS + ESSAY COMPETITIONS, HACKATHONS, AND MUNS AWARDS, AND INTERNSHIPS(SOME EVEN AFTER O LEVELS LIKE BRO STOP COUNTING ON CONNECTIONS). Like wtf bro. Pls kill meeeememememm, how do i compete with this peopleelelele, i am also aiming to get into a competitive course in uni!!!! And some of these people are actually so extra, they are not even aiming for overseas/us unis but they take SATs and AP classes😭, and the craziest part is that they score 1500++, which ik its kind of normal-ish in sg to score maybe at least like 1300+? But still wttftf. How do they even have a social life, they go networking events 24/7.
And with the new jc 70rp system, i bet its going to get WAY more competitive. Reason being: Top courses will face challenges distinguishing an increasing no. of top 70rp candidates from one another. The differentiating factor for uni admission is portfolio and supercurriculars. Uni admissions is, as a result, much tougher to achieve. So now students must both have perfect grades and stacked portfolio to enter a top uni course, which has inadvertently heightened the barrier to admissions. 🤯🤯
Anyways, I am perfectly fine. I am not depressed(am anxious though). I know these are not your normal people. I know they are just a loud minority. I know “comparison is the thief of joy🙄”.
So, what are your thoughts?
