Quitting Escitalopram 'suddenly'
In April of 2022 I was diagnosed with cyclothymia. The psychiatrist I saw prescribed 25mg of quetiapine and nothing else. Looking back it didn't do much but make me tired. In September 2023 my depression got worse and my family doctor prescribed me 10mg of escitalopram. Since then I have had 5 documented major depressive episodes.
I saw a psychiatrist again March 1st of this year and was rediagnosed as bipolar II. She told me "the meds you are on have absolutely zero mood stabilizing properties and I'm not sure why you were on them in the first place". I was prescribed 600mg of lithium and told to wean off quetiapine (half tablet for a week then stop completely) and to take the escitalopram for a month then stop. She said to monitor how I feel and if I find the depression to be too much I can substitute it for Wellbutrin. I have another appointment in about a months time.
I stopped escitalopram two days ago (Saturday night). I had a wicked set of nightmares last night. What are some side effects you guys have noticed? How long until you felt better? A lil scared because of how bad my depression has been lately but trusting the process lol.
