Should new fans even watch the sequels? (episode 7-9)

Basically the title. I am watching the stars movies as they were released currently, after a sutten urge to finally get on the star wars train. I have heard and read a lot of bad stuff about the sequels, and honestly i would rather just ignore they're existence and just start watching the shows that intrigue me.

But should i watch them? Even if for something as simple as there being vital info to understand some random part of the 10s of shows that exist at this point
