Stuck in the 1300s – How Do I Improve?
Totally new to fighting games, I started playing Street Fighter 6 in December 2023. Right now, I’m a Marisa main sitting around 1300 MR. I can push up to 1450, but then I drop back down to 1300 like clockwork (I know how to avoid playing tilted).
My Progress So Far
I climbed from Rookie & Iron by grinding and learning, binge-watching every possible SF6 and Marisa video on YouTube. I hit some plateaus, but I always felt like I was improving—until I reached Master in November ‘24.
Despite the brutal initial losing streak, I felt like I went from a high 1200s player to a high 1300s player in December. But since then? I'm stuck. Three months, and no real improvement.
The Problems I'm Facing
I know there are tons of things to improve, but at the same time, I feel like I don’t know how to actually do it. Some of my biggest struggles:
- Reaction time is terrible – I can’t react to raw DIs.
- I get mixed up easily – Cross-ups destroy me.
- Spacing is off – I misposition and get low-DRC’d to death.
- Corner pressure kills me – Once I’m in the corner, I might as well put down the controller.
What I’ve Tried
I jump into training mode to practice spacing, anti-airs, etc., but it doesn't translate well into real matches. I’ve even taken week-long breaks, but when I return, I feel exactly the same—no better, no worse.
Looking for Advice
Has anyone else hit a hard plateau like this? How did you break through it and keep improving?
